CONFERENCE: THE EMPIRE OF VISION: PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE PORTUGUESE COLONIAL CONTEXT (1860-1960)


Lisbon, ICS-ULisboa, 26-28 September 2013

With the participation of 23 speakers, the conference united researchers of different areas around five thematic sections: Missions/Anthropology; Knowledge/ Circulation; Exhibitions/Reproductions; Resistance/Revolt; Arquiving/Revealing. Very participated in terms of public, the conference became a place of encounter and discussion for subjects that have a growing interest from Portuguese academics, but also journalists, curators, archivists and artists. On the last day there was a guided visit to the exhibition “Entre Memória e Arquivo” [Between memory and archive] at the Museu Colecção Berardo, CCB [Cultural Centre of Belém] with the curator Ruth Rosengarten.
